Sanctuary in wetland site
The transformation of more than 5ha of neglected marshland into a thriving wetland bird sanctuary has earned Cygnia Cove estate in Waterford a prestigious landscape architecture award.
The accolade was awarded to specialist landscape architecture firm Plan E at the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects WA 2012 Project Awards.
The firm undertook years of planning and site analysis for the wetland transformation, which is now the centrepiece if tge 180-lot estate on the banks of the Canning River created by developer Richard Noble & Co.
Plan E director John Tuzee said it was an honour to receive industry recognition after many years of hard work and commitment.
The judging panel commented on the specialised swan breeding habitat integrated into the rehabilitated wetland.
Richard Noble managing director Alex Gregg said the unique location of Cygnia Cove offered the opportunity to create both a spectacular residential community and a sustainable environment for the local wildlife.
“What makes this rehabilitated wetland truly special is that it will provide opportunities for the future residents of Cygnia Cove to explore the natural environment while ensuring the safety of the wildlife is maintained.” Mr Gregg said.
Residents will be able to view the wetland from elevated boardwalks and sheltered viewing sites.
There are a handful of Stage 1 lots left at Cygnia Cove. They range from 441sq m ($549,900) to 570sq m ($649,900).
Homes must be double storey only and built within three years.
